Captain’s prize
. A massive crowd of 100 golfers turned out in force last Sunday to battle for Brendan Leonard’s Captains prize. He had obviously ordered the weather in advance and thankfully, it duly obliged as we were treated to glorious sunshine all day. Brendan had arrived early to the golf club to set up the table of prizes and what a selection they were. All credit to Brendan and his resplendent wife Annette for organising a fantastic array of prizes.

The course was in super condition as always, and one man who took full advantage was John Brennan who shot a superb score of 65 points. Thus ensuring him as top qualifier heading into the playoff. His nearest rivals were a formidable chasing pack even if they were a couple of shots off the leader.

As the playoff reached the mid way mark, it was clear that Keith Feehily was closing in on John, as were the Charlestown duo of Michael Larkin and Clem Reilly. Despite a tricky moment on the final hole Keith claimed the day by a short head from the unlucky Michael.

The presentation took place in the golf club that night where plenty of stories were shared about Brendan’s football career and the day, will always be remember for Pat (PC) Cawley’s excellent, witty, and sometime informative after-dinner speech. A great nights’ entertainment ensued with the large attendance treated to a BBQ, craic agus ceol from Tony Marren. Thanks to Kitty and Peter for looking after us so well as always.

The results read as follows. First; Keith Feehily (100.5), Second; Michael Larkin, Third; Clement Reilly, Fourth; Andrew Callaghan, Fifth; Padraic Scanlon. Gross; John Brennan, Best 18; Francis Henry, Front Nine; Eamon Wimsey, Second nine; Jude Walsh, Third Nine; Damien Cawley. Past Captains; Padraic McDonagh, Juniors Prize (18 holes); Aaron Murtagh, Visitors Prize; Sean Ross (Ballymote), Ladies; Mary Kilcoyne and Juniors Boys; Jamie Burke.

High Boys
