Tubbercurry Golf Club
Presidents Prize

Club President Mr. Billy Kilgannon, held his Presidents prize over 27 Holes on Saturday last. Billy was up early to greet all the competitors on the first tee wishing them good luck in their rounds. The weather was monsoon like throughout the day where even the ducks refused to come out, such was the poor conditions, with blustery winds and heavy showers the order of the day. As usual the pin positions were challenging, especially the 3rd and 5th, but that didn't stop the eventual winner playing some excellent golf.

After the initial 18 Holes we had a young rookie Darragh Kilcoyne jointly leading the field, with a “dark horse” Andrew Callaghan on a very creditable net 66, followed by seasoned veterans Clem Reilly, Ger Roache, Martin Donohue and Gerry “the lefty” Connolly – the latter being many peoples favourite to claim outright victory. This was not to be, and “cometh the hour cometh the man”, where Andrew played sublime golf in atrocious conditions to claim Billy’s magnificent prize.

The final results read as follows;
Winner Andrew Callaghan 102, Second John Brennan 104. Third Martin Donohue 104.5. Fourth Ger Roache 105.5. Fifth Clem Reilly 106.

The best gross was won by Christy Wimsey whilst Darragh Kilcoyne won the best 18.

First 9 prize went to Maynard O Boyle and Second 9 to Ger Henry with the back nine going to Eoin Gallagher.

Past President prize went to CP Scanlon and Visitors prize to Sean Henry (Ballymote). Junior Prize to Ronan Forkin.

The ladies competition was won Christine Hannon. Junior Boys went to Jack McIntyre with Junior Girls claimed by Hanna Kelly.

The prizes were presented that night in a packed clubhouse where music was provided by the excellent Maureen O’Dowd and Pat Campbell. Billy regaled everyone with his witty and memorable speech at the end of which he made presentations to his mother and past President Kathleen and his lovely wife Margaret.
