TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 31st January) Jack Frost Returned again this Weekend to postpone Play of the CMD Winter League, this game will go ahead next Sunday. Tour group back from Costa Almera, Tubbercurry Tour Golfers captained by Martin Cahill are back in town after a great weeks golfing at Costa Almera. The big prize was won by Michael Haran last year’s President Prize winner when playing the PGA Desert Springs Course he carefully avoided the cacti and skilfully negotiated the greens. Winner on day one A.J.Hession set the standard for the rest of the week, second day winner was Bertie Marren, third day winner was Christy Wimsey and day four was won by Francis Haran. At the presentation of prizes Captain Martin entertained the group with some tricks Paul Daniels’ would be proud of. TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 20th December 09) The artic weather conditions at the weekend stopped all golf. Competitions due to be played will be rescheduled. Club Captain Frank Durcan and his committee wish all club members and their families a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year. Congratulations to club member Francis Mulligan who married Sarah Durcan on Saturday last. Anyone wishing to give vouchers from Tubbercurry Golf Club as Christmas presents can contact any committee member. Members and friends are asked to support all our sponsors especially over the festive season. The committee request that members pay their membership as soon as possible to help cash flow. A draw for all paid up members will take place in March. On Saturday last the course committee had an end of year meeting, the purpose of the meeting was to review progress for the 2009 season and develop a plan for 2010. Some of the major developments in 2009 was the purchase of a new five head power mower for the rough, the replacing of the old fairway gang mover with a power driven five head cylindrical mower and the building of a new sand and machinery shed using voluntary labour. They course committee thank all the members who supported and helped them during the year. The also thanked the course staff, Val Doddy who retired in November and John Rowley for their commitment to keeping the course in top condition. Enda Mullroney was also thanked for his support and assistance during the year.

TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 6th December 09) The first round of the C.M.D Training Institute Winter League was played on Sunday last. Considering the poor weather we had for the month of November the course was in good condition, the greens were in excellent shape giving no excuses for poor putts. In first place was Francis Mulligan, Tish Perry, Darragh Kilcoyne and James Marren, second were James McGuire, Bertie Marren, Padraic Walsh and Mary K Johnston, third were Shane Gallagher, Frank Durcan, Ann Conlon and Gerrard Mullaney, fourth were Tommy Clarke, Michael Larkin, Simon Graig and Brigid Clarke, fifth were Damien Cawley, Eamon McGuinness, Tommie Grady and David Duffy. The second round of the winter league will be played on Sunday next December 13th. The Animal Health Centre Christmas Hamper will be for on Saturday and Sunday 19th / 20 December.

29-11-2009 Frank Durcan takes over as Club Captain for 2010
TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 29th November 09) The AGM of Tubbercurry Golf Club took place in the clubhouse on Friday the 27th November. Following the adoption of the minutes from last years AGM, Honoury Secretary Billy Kilgannon gave an account of the years activities, then Club Captain Tommy Kelly gave his address, in his address he thanked all his committee for their help, Club treasurer Jimmy Henry and Club Auditor Shane Gilawley gave details of the club finances. Shane said that most clubs had see a drop in income during the 2008 season, Tubbercurry was no exception but they had had reduced expenditure to off set the down fall. During the year the club had invested in a new rough mover and had also build an extension to the machinery shed. The extension was done with voluntary labour. John Francis Kelly Club President said in his address that he was delighted to have served the club for the past year and thanked all who supported him during the year. Then it was on to the election of officers and committee. Elected, as Club President was Tommie Grady, elected as Club Captain was Frank Durcan with Brendan Leonard as vice-captain, Billy Kilgannon continues as Honoury Secretary and A.J.Hession was elected as honoury treasurer. The new committee are Brendan Leonard, Porick Murray, Gerard Roache, Pat Ridge, Pearse Burke, Hugh Boyle, Brian Ginty and Martin McIntyre. Frank Durcan in his incoming address thanked out going treasurer Jimmy Henry, out going committee members Charlie Scanlon, John Gilespie and Padraic Moran for the work they have done for the club. The eight motions were then discussed in detail. Motions concerning the running of club scrambles and the running of the club singles and doubles were debated at length and motions agreed on. Under AOB the question was raised about the position of the first tee box. The course committee explained that they had temporary changed the position of the first tee box for safety reasons; they are investigating the best and most cost effective way of providing protection for the first tee box. Weather did improve at the weekend but due to the amount of rain fall it was agreed to close the course on Sunday last. Should the weather improve during the week the first round of the C.M.D Training Institute Winter League will be on Sunday 6th December.

The club extends sympathy to Martin Cahill Broher on the death of his brother John in Chicago.

TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 15th November 09) On Thursday night last a fund raising table quiz was held in the clubhouse for a club defibrillator. A large crowd turned out to support this very worthy cause. Organisers of the night Ger Roache and Porick Murray left no stone unturned in ensuring the night was a great success. Harold McManus prepared the questions and also acted as MC for the night. In third place were Francis Haran, Gerry Conway, Mary Conway and Mary Kennedy. In second place were Eamon Gallagher, John Gillespie and Nial McDonnell. Taking first place were Michael Gallagher, Patrick Gallagher, Seamus Duffy and James O’Hara. A special prize on the night went to the Cloonacool team of Agnes Durcan, Ann Brennan, Karen McIntyre and Attracta McIntyre. The winner of the draw for a limited edition of a Tiger Woods painting was past president Pearse Henry. The committee wish to thank all those who supported and sponsored prizes for the quiz. A monthly draw for valuable prizes will start shortly. Val’s Retirement Congratulations and Happy Retirement to Val Doddy our Head Green Keeper from the Lady Captain Mary, Ladies Committee, and Lady members. Val has been with Tubbercurry Golf Club down the years and due to his dedication and hard work we now have one of the finest golf clubs in the area. From dawn to dusk Val was available when the occasion required. His commitment to his work resulted in excellent playing conditions on the course throughout the year for all who enjoy the game of golf. Sincere thanks to Val for his hard work over the years and best wishes to him and his family now and in the future. Senior Ladies Tubbercurry Senior Ladies met recently in Murphy Hotel, Tubbercurry for lunch to mark the end of a very successful summer season. Margaret Marren was presented with a prize as the overall winner of the season. On behalf of the ladies Mary Kelly presented Senior Convenor Eilish Brett with a bouquet of flowers to thank her for her continued hard work. A donation was made to Sligo Hospice and to the Club Defibrillator fund by the senior ladies club from competition funds gathered throughout the year. TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 8th November 09) On Friday last the 6th November Val Doddy retired as green keeper. Val has been with the club from early days and has seen the club develop from farmland to the fine golf course it is today. For the past nine years Val has been head green keeper. At a social on Friday night club members joined Val and his family for a most enjoyable get together. Captain Tommy Kelly and Lady Captain Mary Costello both made presentations to Val. Tommy in his speech gave an account of Val’s career which lead ultimitly to him become head green keeper. Mary in her speech spoke of Val’s bravery as he dodged the stray golf balls while working on the course. Val in his speech thanked all the members for their gifts and he also spoke of the good memories he had of the members who have gone to their heavenly reward. Then it was on to the music and song as the Doddy’s entertained us, Val sang and played the mouth organ, his brother played the accordion and the mouth organ while his sister Beatrice also sang. Club Captain Tommy Kelly and past Captain Pat Cawley were also in fine singing form on the night. All members wish Val many happy years of retirement. On Thursday night the 12th November a fund raising table quiz for a club defibrillator. will be held in the clubhouse, the draw for the winner of the 100 confined competition will take place on this night also. TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 1st November 09) A presentation of all outstanding prizes took place in the clubhouse on Sunday night last. Winning first prize in this year’s golfer of the year competition which was sponsored by John Gillespie Menswear and Sport was Francis Mulligan. Roger McCarrick sponsor of the club singles presented first prize to Martin Donoghue Jnr and second prize to Eamon Gallagher. The club doubles competition which was sponsored by C.P.Scanlon was won by Padraig McDonagh and Tommie Grady with Joe Kilcoyne and Barry Kilcoyne second, the prizes were presented by Charlie Scanlon. Sunday’s competition a 9-hole stableford R/E sponsored by Cawley’s Hotel was won by John T Marren on 18 points second was Michael Larkin on 17 points and Francis Mulligan was third on 16 points. Sunday the 25th competition which was sponsored by Paul Kennedy Electrician was won by James McGuire on 37 points, second was Gerard Roache on 35 points and third was John T Marren on 34 points. Monday 26th competition sponsored by F.B.D. Insurance was won by Eamon Perry on 34 nett, second was Brendan Leonard on 36 nett and third was Padraic Moran on 38 nett. The C.M.D Training Institute Winter League will start on Sunday 8th November. Players are asked to put their names on the sheet on the main notice board before Thursday 5th November, it is hoped that all beginners and juniors will play in this competition. On Friday the 6th November Val Doddy retires as green keeper. Val has been with the club from early days and has seen the club develop from farmland to the fine golf course it is today. For the past nine years Val has been head green keeper. We all thank Val for his commitment to the club over the years and all members are invited to join Val for a night of fun and craic in the clubhouse on Friday night 6th at 9pm. On Thursday night the 12th November a fund raising table quiz for a club defibrillator. will be held in the clubhouse, the draw for the winner of the 100 confined competition will take place on this night also. The AGM of Tubbercurry Golf Club will take place in the clubhouse on Friday the 27th November at 8.30 pm. Motions and Nominations must be in before the 16th November 09. Forms for both are posted on the main notice board. The club extends sympathy to the Wimsey family on death of Martha Wimsey and to the Henry family on the recent death Fr. Denis Henry.
