TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 4th January) Sunday next the 11th January is Captains Drive in day at Tubbercurry Golf Club. All club members wish incoming Captain Tommy Kelly and incoming Lady Captain Mary Costello the best of luck in the year ahead. The drive in is at 11.30am. The final of the CMD Training Institute winter league takes place on Sunday also with presentation of prizes that evening in the club house. The non qualifiers will start between 8.30 am and 9.30 am. The qualifiers will have an 11.45am shot gun start. Team captains are asked to contact their team members with regard to the starting times.

21-12-2008 Club Captain Tommy Kelly takes home the Animal Health Centre hamper
(For week ending Sunday 21st December) On Saturday and Sunday last the Christmas Hampers sponsored by the Animal Health Centre was played for over 14 holes. This competition was keenly contested but winning with a score of 35 points and showing no sign of pressure from his new job was incoming club captain Tommy Kelly, second just one shot off the pace was John Brennan with Frank Durkan taking third on a similar score. On Sunday evening incoming captains Tommy Kelly and Mary Costello officiated at their first presentation of prizes. Both thanked the outgoing captains John Gillespie and Mary Kilcoyne for their hard work. They thanked all the sponsors and wished then a Happy Christmas and prosperous 2009. They finished off the evening by extending season greetings to all club members. Congratulations to past Club Captain Pat Cawley who celebrated an important birthday last weekend with his family and friends in the clubhouse. Pat who was a very popular club captain also has the distinction of being captain of not just one but two Connaught winning club teams. All club members wish Pat a very happy birthday and hope that over they next fifty years he will bring more titles to Tubbercurry. Next weekend is Captain’s Charity weekend with a 9-hole stableford R/E competition for Ladies and Gents on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 14-12-2008 Animal Health Centre Hampers competition on next Saturday & Sunday
TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 14th December) On Saturday and Sunday next the Christmas Hampers sponsored by the Animal Health Centre will be played for over 14 holes. Players may play on both days. The competition was cancel on Sunday last due to bad weather. On Sunday evening next a presentation of all outstanding prizes will take place in the clubhouse at 6 pm. Club captain Tommy Kelly and his committee held their first meeting last week. Tommy open the meeting by thanking the outgoing captain John Gillespie and his committee for the great work they did last year. He welcomed new members Porick Murray and Ger Roache to the committee and thanked all committee members for giving their time to the golf club. The various convenors gave reports; most of the convenors have their committee in place and are actively working on plans for 2009. These plans will be ready for approval by the main committee in January. Frank Durkan gave an update on membership he hoped that as many members as possible will pay their membership early and help cash flow. This item was discussed at length at the AGM, it was agreed that some members are not aware just how important it is to pay membership on time. Frank and his committee are looking at ways of helping and encouraging members to pay their fee. Brendan Leonard has taken over societies this year, groups thinking about booking a day should contact Brendan in order to get their preferred day. Tommy Kelly also thanked all the team captains who are so enthusiastic about filling a vacant space over the bar with a pendant in 2009. TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 7th December) Jack Frost was winner at the weekend as competitions were postponed due to frosted ground conditions. However we hope milder weather will reach us by the weekend no doubt a large crowd will battle it out on Sunday next for the Christmas Hampers sponsored by the Animal Health Centre. This competition which has been sponsored by the Animal Health Centre since the start of the club signals the beginning of the Christmas season at Tubbercurry Golf Club. The coming week is a very busy week at the club as captain Tommy Kelly and his committee set out their plans for the year. It is hoped that as many members as possible will pay their membership early and help cash flow. This item was discussed at length at the AGM, it was agreed that some members are not aware just how important it is to pay membership on time. It was agreed the committee would look at methods of resolving this situation.

(For week ending Sunday 30th November) On Friday night last Tubbercurry Golf Club held their AGM. Club secretary Billy Kilgannon gave the large gathering an account of the years activities. He told the meeting that it was very encouraging for the club to see an increase in membership and also that this year juniors under the watch full eye of Padraig Moran were out in force and if this trend continues the future for Tubbercurry Golf Club is very promising. John Gillespie outgoing captain thanked the members for their support and help. This was a very special year for him as his father the late Jim Gillespie was Captain of Tubbercurry Golf Club fifty years ago and this year was also the silver jubilee of the Gillespie Cup. John also paid special thanks to our loyal sponsors who continue to support the club and asked members to support them. John thanked the out going Lady Captain Mary Kilcoyne and her committee for their help and support and wished the incoming Lady Captain Mary Costello and her committee good luck for the year ahead. John thanked outgoing committee members Joe Quinn and Keith Feehily for their hard work. Joe posted all photo’s on our web site while Keith was Brendan Leonard’s right hand man on the course committee. Patrick Quinn was also thanked for his work in upgrading our web pages. Jimmy Henry club treasurer then presented the treasurers report, he told the meeting that even though our finances were in a healthy state we would have to be very prudent with spending in the coming year. Next on the agenda was the President’s address, out going president Denis Scanlon said it was an honour to be President of Tubbercurry Golf Club. He thanked everybody for their support and help and then nominated John Francis Kelly as Club President for 2009. John Francis Kelly who was club secretary for many years said he was looking forward to the year ahead and thanked Denis for giving him the opportunity to hold this prestidous position. John Francis then nominated Tommie Grady as his vice president. Club Captain John Gillespie then nominated Tommy Kelly as Captain for the year 2009, on accepting office Tommy thanked John for nominating him, he also thanked the founding members for their fore sight and resolve in giving us this fine facility, he also thanked the 2008 committee for giving of their time to ensure the club continued to trive. Tommy Kelly then nominated Frank Durcan as his vice captain. The following eight members were then elected to the committee, Pat Ridge, Charles Scanlon, Brendan Leonard, Tommie Grady, Padraig Moran, Pearse Burke, Ger Roache and John Murray. The Captain then proposed that membership rates for 2009 would remain the same as 2008. This proposal was carried. A lively discussion then took place as five motions were discussed. The personnel in charge of teams for 2009 are as follows Tommy Conlon - Seniors, Jack Reade - Junior Cup, Tommy Clarke - Jack O’Sullivan, Paul Kilcoyne - Conaught Shield, Tony Hession - Jimmy Bruen , Pat Cawley - Pearse Purcell, Tony Burke - Cecil Ewing . The team captains will be contacting players in the near future with regard to training and diets for the year ahead. Charlie Scanlon is course convenor with Pat Ridge, Jim McLoughlin and Tommie Grady making up his committee. Club members are invite to give suggestions and ideas to the committee for course improvements, all ideas will be reviewed by the committee and the member making them will be informed of the decision. Padraig Moran is the new club house convenor. Billy Kilgannon continues as club secretary, Jimmy Henry continues as treasurer and Tommie Grady continues as PRO. The final qualifying round of the CMD Training Institute Winter League was played on Sunday last. This was without doubt the most keenly contested Winter League in the history of the competition with scores of 5 under failing to make the cut. The following ten teams will battle it out in the final in early January, Joey Wimsey’s team on 82.05, Paul Kilcoyne’s team on 82.275, Jimmy Walshe’s Team on 83, Francis Haran’s team on 83.05, J.P. Walsh’s team on 84, Pearse Burke’s team on 84.375, Mark Burke’s team on 85.375, Eamon Gallagher’s team on 85.425, John Brennan’s team on 85.475 and James McGuire’s team on 85.575. Next Sunday’s competition is an 9 hole stableford sponsored by Union Foods.

(For week ending Sunday 23rd November) The third round of the CMD Training Institute Winter League was played on Sunday last. After two rounds Martin Cahill’s team lead the way, second is Jimmy Walshe’s team, third is Mark Burke’s team, fourth is Brian Ginty’s team, fifth is Joey Wimsey’s team, sixth is Damien Caw ley’s team, seventh is Francis Haran’s team, eight is J. Brennan’s team, ninth is Christy Wimsey’s team and tenth is Pearse Burke’s team. The final round will be played on Sunday next. With some teams having to play two matches it is difficult to pick the qualifying teams. However the top five teams are odds on to qualify. The clubs AGM will take place on Friday night next the 28th November 2008 at 8.30 pm in the clubhouse All members are asked to make a special effort to attend. On Wednesday night last the Ladies Club elected Mary Costello as their Lady Captain and Bridgie Clarke as their Lady President for 2009, Congratulations and best wishes to Mary , Bridgie and the ladies committee for the coming year.

TUBBERCURRY GOLF NOTES (For week ending Sunday 9th November) The CMD Training Institute Winter League got under way on Sunday last. Leading the field on Sunday was Martin Cahill’s team of P.J.Hunt, Mary K Johnston, and John Gilmartin. In second place was Jimmy Walshe’s team of Billy Kilgannon, Hugh O’Boyle and John F Kelly. In third place was Mark Burke’s team of Eamon McGuinness, Jim Keigher and Patricia Gawley. The full list of team positions are posted in the club house. Teams are reminded that the best three scores from the four matches will count. The clubs AGM will take place on Friday the 28th November 2008. Forms for motions and proposals for committee members are posted on the main notice board. Members are invited to use the motion forms for putting forward their ideas at the AGM.
